With the title of this post, I mean obviously not all brands, but lately I've "been" a number of things on Twitter that caught my attention.
I've been a long time each day on Twitter and chat with my followers, Retweet tweets that I find interesting or funny and share the articles I read in Google Reader and I think relevant. Gradually, I created my small community of people in my timeline related to several issues. The most relevant are: Apple, Design, Android, films and series and comics.
The good thing about Twitter is that each creates their community and you to have the user "x" in a list or in your TL does not necessarily mean that you're part of their community.
And now to the issue that occupies the post.
Since a few weeks ago, have begun to follow Twitter accounts that have little or nothing to do with me.
I will not say that accounts are, first because I do not follow, and second, because I do not advertise them, but grossomodo:
- An online store for Hello Kitty things.
- A website with deals for shows ... in london.
- Music sites.
- Employment sites in Latin America.
- Soccer Clubs in other cities.
And so ...
A I do not care that I do follow anyone. In fact, I like it. Realistically, we all like people to follow us on Twitter because that means more people are interested in what we say / share. What bothers me is that if bills how are you begin to follow me and two days later, I unfollow do not even have said hello.
Many will agree that it is not a personal account a brand account. A personal account can begin to follow two days and quit for whatever reason and if further explanation. I do it every day and I do it myself. In fact, normally I do follow back the majority of accounts with the hope that at least I will direct the word and try to create a small list twittera.
But a brand can not do that. A brand has to be a benchmark in its subject. And as such, it can not do is start following people thoughtlessly and then unfollow him. Why? Single.
Take an example:
Pepito The furniture store begins to follow. I, but like most people, and I have furniture at home and do not currently need to buy new furniture, so do not say anything, because then I'm not interested. But Pepito furniture does not know, so the only thing he expects is to do follow back, because that fatten their followers and seem more important. But they are wrong. Right now I do not need furniture, but if you follow me to greet me and inform me of their services with kindness and without falling into the SPAM, it is likely that the day I need furniture, I stop by your site to see what they have.
But instead, all I have done is wait follow back, what all you have done is lose a potential customer.
I began to follow a web of deals in Seville.
For starters, with a glance at my profile and see that I'm not interested, because I live in Barcelona. If I were in Seville understand that I follow and I did say anything, it is logical that they share interests me. But if they looked at where I am, you would see that directly, I'm not a potential customer. But that does not mean I'm not interested, then I can have followers in Sevillas that may be of interest to some RT I can do any of the deals to see that they share.
And one last example.
I start to follow a website that provides logos / websites for 1 €. Let's see, soul jar. In my bio says "Graphic Designer", would not you think that I'll be interested in a website that directly is my competition? (And also my industry is hurting, but that's another topic).
In the first two examples, if the brand / company would have at least tried to have a small and simple conversation, not only have one more follower, but also a potential customer or someone who can spread your content to all your followers.
In the latter case, obviously, the community manager must be the son-in-law's cousin's neighbor who once read something nosequé Twitter and became an account.
What I think:
If you want to put your brand in social networks not only have to be in them actively, but also have to watch who you follow and who follows you. Watching user profile is just a click and you can save time and user. Or win in the event that you act well and create a small online relationship with that person.
People are valuable, we are not simply "one more follower" and brands have to know that.
